01What It Is

What is orthopedic therapy?

Orthopedic therapy is physical therapy focused specifically on the musculoskeletal system: your muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, and bones. It is the branch of therapy most people picture when they think of rehab after a surgery, a fracture, or a significant joint injury, though it covers far more than post-op recovery alone. A therapist trained in orthopedic care evaluates the injured or affected structure, along with the joints and muscles around it that may be compensating, and builds a progressive plan that restores strength, range of motion, and normal movement patterns in the right order. That progression matters. Loading a healing joint or tendon too early can set recovery back, while being too cautious for too long leaves you weak and stiff long after you could have been moving again. At Empower, orthopedic therapy is delivered one on one, by the same therapist who understands exactly where you are in your specific timeline, whether that is two weeks after a knee replacement or six months into managing a chronic rotator cuff issue. Nothing about your progression gets guessed at or handed off between visits.

This kind of therapy also bridges the gap between a surgeon's clearance and actually feeling like yourself again. A surgical repair can fix the structure, but it does not automatically restore the strength, balance, and confidence you need to use it normally. That rebuilding work is what happens here, visit by visit, until the joint or limb that was injured functions like the rest of your body again.

02Who It's For

Who it's for.

Orthopedic therapy covers a wide range of musculoskeletal issues, from recent surgery to injuries that happened years ago and never fully resolved. These are the situations we see most often.

01

Recovering after a joint replacement or orthopedic surgery

Surgery repairs the structure, but regaining strength, range of motion, and confidence in the joint takes guided, progressive rehab. We work within your surgeon's protocol to rebuild function in the right order, so you return to full use of the joint, not just clearance on paper.

02

Managing a fracture, sprain, or soft tissue injury

A broken bone, a significant sprain, or a torn ligament changes how you move long after the initial injury has healed, especially if it was ever immobilized. We restore the strength and motion that gets lost during that healing period so the injury does not leave a lasting limitation behind.

03

Living with a chronic joint or muscle condition

Arthritis, tendinitis, and other ongoing orthopedic conditions do not have to mean permanent limitation. We build a plan that manages symptoms, protects the joint, and keeps you as strong and mobile as possible for the long run.

03What To Expect

What to expect in a session.

Orthopedic therapy is progressive by design, changing as your tissue heals and your strength returns.

01

Evaluation and protocol review

Your therapist reviews your surgical history or injury, along with any protocol from your surgeon, and evaluates your current strength, motion, and movement patterns. This sets the specific starting point and timeline for your care.

02

Guided, hands-on treatment

Each session combines manual therapy, guided movement, and modalities as needed to manage pain and swelling while restoring motion. Your therapist adjusts intensity and technique in real time based on how your tissue is responding that day.

03

Progressive strengthening and return to function

As you heal, sessions shift toward building the strength and stability that let you return to normal activity, work, sport, or simply moving without thinking about it again. Your home program evolves alongside your in-clinic sessions to keep progress moving between visits.

Good to know

If you have had recent surgery, bring any paperwork or protocol from your surgeon to your first visit so we can build your plan around their specific timeline and restrictions.

In Their Words
My 11 year old son received PT here for a post op fractured elbow. The staff Jason, Stephen and Anthony and the front office staff are all friendly and so helpful. We appreciate all the support and attention they gave my son. He is doing so much better thanks to them.
